dscn0079This incredible valley has been completely cut off from travellers until it was opened up by the Indian Government only in early 1994. It is a Buddhist region north of Leh across the 18,380 ft. (5600m) Khardung La Pass, the highest motorable road in the world. The Khardung La was the first of the five passes on the former trade route to Turkestan. Nubra consists of two long valleys: the Nubra and the Shyok, lying beneath the towering eastern Karakoram Range, which contains the highest peaks within Ladakh. At the head of the Nubra Valley is the 45 mile (70km) long Siachen Glacier, the longest glacier in the Karakoram.
